Bibby Marine is immensely proud to announce Sir Michael Bibby was awarded the Maritime Ambassador’s Award, at last night’s Mersey Maritime Industry Awards.
Now in its ninth year, the awards celebrate the achievements of the industry’s most outstanding companies and individuals.
Described on the night by presenter Gary Hodson, as, “A giant of our industry both on an individual basis and also because of the long association that his family has with maritime and the city of Liverpool,” Sir Michael was awarded for his outstanding contribution to the maritime sector over the course of his life and career.
On accepting his award, Sir Michael Bibby said: “It is an honour to be nominated as an ambassador for Mersey Maritime… but I feel like we are only just beginning now, we have zero-carbon ships to build for the Offshore Wind Sector, a new knowledge hub – there’s lots to do!”
Bibby Marine CEO Nigel Quinn said: “We are delighted Sir Michael was recognised by Mersey Maritime for his contribution to the maritime industry both in the North West and further afield.
“Under his guidance and leadership, Sir Michael has ensured Bibby Marine’s reputation as one of the most trusted and oldest family run maritime businesses in the UK – a reputation he has not only upheld but also uplifted. Bibby Marine continues to lead the way in the maritime sector and its pioneering spirit endures, with the new build of a zero-emission electric vessel.
He continued: “Throughout his career, Sir Michael has been committed to helping the region achieve its ambitions to once again be a global maritime leader and was a key player in the establishment of Mersey Maritime, where he sat as Chair for several years.”
The Mersey Maritime Industry Awards are a celebration of the strength and diversity of the North West’s maritime sector. Previous winners of the Maritime Ambassador’s Award include Gary Hodgson formerly of Peel Ports Group, the Royal Navy, and Pamela Brown MBE.
Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees and thanks to Mersey Maritime for organising a fantastic event to celebrate our industry.
