At the start of this year’s National Apprenticeship week, Bibby Marine is delighted to announce the two cadets, who have been awarded Apprentice of the Year by Liverpool Marine Engineers’ & Naval Architects’ Guild.

Erin Callow, Clyde Marine Engineer Cadet, has been awarded Apprentice of the Year 2023 after sailing onboard the Bibby WaveMaster 1 during 2022 and 2023. Erin is nearing the end of her cadetship, currently sailing as Motorman until the end of January 2024.

George Light, a former Bibby Marine Deck Cadet with V-Ships, was awarded Apprentice of the Year in 2022 after sailing on both Bibby WaveMaster 1 and Bibby WaveMaster Horizon vessels during his cadetship. George is now a permanent member of the team onboard the Bibby WaveMaster 1, as a Second Officer.

The pair were recognised for their outstanding efforts during their cadetships in an awards ceremony hosted virtually on Tuesday, 16 January 2024.

Bibby Marine is currently partnered with Clyde Marine Training to offer marine engineering cadetship courses to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for life at sea, with four cadets currently working on Bibby Marine vessels.

Speaking of the award, Erin said: “Receiving this award means so much to me, I’ve had many setbacks throughout my cadetship but through determination, I pushed through. Achieving Apprentice of the Year 2023 feels like the hard work has paid off.”

George said: “I was thrilled to have been awarded Apprentice of the Year 2022, it gave me a real sense of achievement towards the end of my cadetship, that I had attained the standard required to start my career as a qualified officer.”

Richard Garforth, Bibby Marine HR and Training Manager said: “At Bibby Marine, we believe in investing in colleagues’ development and the value, benefit and opportunity that cadetships bring to the business. We are extremely proud that George and Erin have been recognised for their great work and dedication whilst onboard our vessels.”

He added: “Cadetships are vital to future proof skills within the industry, whilst also creating pathways for the leaders of tomorrow. There is no doubt that George and Erin will go far within the industry.”
