Pioneering Projects - our Roadmap to Green

Our innovation journey began with the WaveMaster Zero C project in 2019. This initiative evaluated alternative fuels to power the next generation of Service Operation Vessels (SOVs), marking the start of our “Roadmap to Green.” Our commitment to sustainable innovation was further demonstrated through our participation in the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition. Here, we explored two vessel solutions: a short-term low-emissions conversion and a long-term zero-emissions new build.
OUR ROADMAP TO GREEN

The world’s first truly zero-emission eCSOV

In 2023, we reached a monumental milestone by securing funding from the Zero-Emission Vessel Infrastructure (ZEVI) competition. This support enabled us to embark on an ambitious project: the world's first truly zero-emission electric Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (eCSOV). This revolutionary vessel is part of a UK-based consortium, including industry giants like Kongsberg, Shell, and Port of Aberdeen, showcasing leadership in UK content and design.

The eCSOV will be a 90m zero-emissions SOV for the offshore wind sector, equipped with a dual fuel hybrid system capable of running on eMethanol. It will play a crucial role in the renewable energy supply chain, offering unprecedented emission reductions and operational efficiency.

The eCSOV Project - Leading the way

Further technological benefits for the industry:

The technologies developed for SOV decarbonisation can be applied to other maritime sectors. If left running on current fuels, SOVs operating in European waters alone, could potentially cost over £650m in damages to the environment by 2050. The eCSOV will not only make carbon savings, but also help to shine a light on UK innovation and support ambitions to turn the UK into the world’s number one centre for green technology. 

Reduction in carbon pricing measures:

Electrification equals significant carbon savings, which in turn will support in reducing carbon pricing measures for energy operators, in line with the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
