In the early part of 2012, Bibby Bergen underwent a refurbishment programme to refresh the interior, and upgrade the kitchen, restaurant and all public spaces onboard.

Bibby Marine (formerly Maritime) held a Bibby Bergen open day in May 2012, and invited a number of friends, colleagues, customers and contacts to view the new and improved vessel. Following this, Aibel AS of Haugesund, Norway asked to charter Bibby Bergen for 13 months starting in June 2012.

Bibby Bergen accommodated workers during the build of the deck for Statoil’s (now Equinor) Gudrun platform deck, a 2.7bn NOK contract, as well as during the design and build of a platform for the Dolwin Wind farm cluster near Helgoland, Germany. Gudrun is a steel platform on the North sea seabed which allows for the treatment of oil and gas. The Gudrun field (operated by Equinor) holds about 184 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Aibel had previously chartered Bibby Bergen for 12 months in 2006-2007, while undertaking a number of major projects for the offshore oil and gas industry.

Bibby Bergen offered a swift solution for accommodation for Aibel’s workers in both instances, with straightforward set up to an existing berth (in their shipyard) and a comfortable living environment.

“Aibel were pleased with Bibby Bergen, and found it to be a useful solution to our accommodation needs, with fast and easy hook-up to one of the berths within our shipyard”
