The Electric Commissioning Service Operation Vessel eCSOV
Building tomorrow’s future today
Bibby Marine’s vision is to become the UK’s cleanest Service Operation Vessel (SOV) operator and to operate a zero-emission SOV before 2030. Continuing our historical pioneering spirit, we are building the most advanced, efficient and environmentally friendly SOV on the market – the electric-Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (eCSOV).
The delivery of this vessel has the potential to be a game changer for our industry by accelerating our path to net-zero.
Bibby Marine is the owner and operator of the WaveMaster fleet of vessels. As pioneers in this sector, our purpose-built Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) have a proven track record of providing safe access for personnel to offshore energy platforms, a high standard of accommodation, and transportation. Our efficient and reliable service enables our customers to do their job.
Why charter the eCSOV?
Our new vessel will be at the forefront of the offshore walk-to-work market, offering unparalleled emission reductions and fuel consumption.
With its market leading battery pack and methanol fuel system combined, she will be the first true zero emission SOV – with the ability to operate a full day of operations on battery alone, capable of charging from offshore wind farms.
Or when operating on green methanol, our eCSOV guarantees superior fuel efficiency, vastly reduced carbon emissions and an ability to be zero emission once wind farm infrastructure is installed, this setting a new standard in the industry.

“The eCSOV will feature a powerful battery system, complemented by dual-fuel methanol engines for emission-free operations.”

- Offshore vessels

Over 20 hours of battery endurance in good weather (2.0m Hs) / over 8 hours continuous in rough conditions (3.5m Hs).

With a full charge, the eCSOV will be able to complete transits up to 130NM

Tonnes of CO2 saved by eCSOV compared to a conventional SOV, over its 25-year life span

Life
on board
Ensuring comfort for crew members, the vessel will provide top tier accommodation with generous communal areas and comfortable cabins. The eCSOV is equipped with Starlink technology, providing unparalleled internet access to all onboard while at sea. This cutting-edge satellite internet service ensures that everyone on board remains connected, no matter how remote the location.

- Life on board
Living offshore
shouldn’t be
uncomfortable.
Ensuring comfort for crew members, the vessel will provide top-tier accommodation with generous communal areas and comfortable cabins. To facilitate zero-emission operations, the eCSOV will feature high-voltage offshore charging facilities for rapid recharging. With the capability to operate solely on battery power for over 20 hours between charging cycles, the vessel is primed for efficient field operations. Our eCSOV guarantees superior fuel efficiency, setting a new standard in the industry.
The vessel sets new standards in data collection, digital twin technology, and AI-driven modelling, enabling real-time performance optimisation and predictive maintenance for maximum operational efficiency. With high-end, hotel-standard accommodation and low noise and vibration levels, it provides maximum comfort for personnel during operations. Additionally, over 500m² of dedicated, covered, and environmentally controlled warehouse space below decks, with side access, enables safe and efficient shoreside operations.

Our roadmap to green
Bibby Marine began its “Roadmap to Green” in 2019 with WaveMaster Zero C project – funded by MarRI-UK, which was aimed to determine which alternative fuel is best suited to the next generation of SOVs and similar sized vessels and led to a number of feasibility studies, funded through the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competitions (CMDC). This led to a funding award as part of the Zero Emission Vessel Infrastructure (ZEVI) project, which kick-started the eCSOV project.
